We love Sugar! All about your Sweet Tooth and Glycation.

Dr. Glow Girl here – just popping in for a quick hello and to post a lovely illustration that shows our average sugar consumption (as of 2012). I adore a lovely slice of Dulce de Leche flan as much as the next girl. And keep me away from freshly-baked Chocolate Eclairs, or Beignets dusted in powdered sugar, lest you have not a crumb left for yourself! But the truth is, excess sugar is BAD, BAD, BAD for the complexion of a woman of a certain age (and even younger, too). If excess sugar is available, our natural metabolic processes will glycate the sugar and that hurts skin’s underlying scaffolding, (collagen, elastin, fibroblasts) severely. Combining protein with sugar (maple syrup soaked bacon anyone?) is especially terrible. I know I won’t be able to give up all these lovely, creatively sweet delights but I will definitely be cutting back and thinking twice before over-indulging on them. AND, I’ll be slathering my skin with Firming Densifier Active Treatment Moisturizer to mitigate the glycation processes that do occur because, after all, I’m not a girl with a will of iron. Rather more flexible actually. But that’s what makes Dr Glow Girl who she is! C’est la vie!

Warmly,

Dr. Glow Girl
